Looking for a chill spot or a place to have some fun? This spot has something for everyone, whether you’re up for a fun adventure or just looking to relax and unwind. Birdlings Flat Beach is a little paradise.
The cliffs on the left side are not as grand as others, but they add a lovely touch to the beach. They are a remarkable sight, formed over many years by the incredible force of time. Then, as you look to my right, you’ll see a vast beach that seems to stretch on forever.

Although the beach appears peaceful, it is unsafe to swim or surf due to strong ocean currents. Visitors often spot Hector’s & Māui dolphins, and elephant seals occasionally bask on the shores.

We’d read the stones that give the area its rocky reputation drifted north on ocean currents from southern rivers, stopping at the southern coast of Banks Peninsula.

We had a great time gathering some really cool “gems” and then hung out at the Little River Cafe and Store to grab some yummy food and coffee.
This establishment boasts an impressive array of art pieces, ranging from exquisite jewelry to captivating metal art and paintings. Without a doubt, a visit to this place is highly recommended.
