I am home alone, sitting outside on my patio, watching the world go by.

The grass is greener than ever. The seagulls fly by, and flies and bugs try to get in the house. Some plants look dead, but they are dormant while the winter is approaching. The days are bright and sunny. It lights up the house with its big windows.
The sky is blue with no clouds. There is just a little cold breeze, but staying in the sun feels good.
I have Smokey enjoying the sun near me, looking at the seagull like, wondering what’s going on. Inside, Mary Jane stays close to the window. She doesn’t like openness too much; she is afraid that the sky will fall on her head. She is a weird little dog. She finally decided to join us. Who wouldn’t? It is so quiet, warm, and peaceful.

It’s been a while since I can sit quietly and allow the world to pass by Smokey and me.
Why not do it more frequently?
Why run to the computer and read emails and answer it? What is so important that it can’t wait until later? Do we really need to answer messages from others and read news and other articles right away? Do we need to be on the internet and watch TV all the time?
It’s funny to think that we need to perform now. We need to hassle to get ahead. We need to save to build a future. We dream of retirement to travel and enjoy the rest of our days, but we are often too old, sick, or broke because life happens and life is passing us.
Are we missing the beautiful world around us as we constantly think about the future? — what we need to do, our anxieties about what might happen — and the past — what we did wrong, what someone else did to us, what we said, what should have happened?
When was the last time you just sat and observed? Why not do it today?
