Lake Pukaki

Lake Pukaki

The water has a stunning turquoise color that makes you feel like you’re in a dream world.

But the truth is that this color comes from fine silt particles called glacial flour, which come from glacial erosion. These particles are so fine that they stay in the water and don’t settle to the bottom quickly.

Unfortunately, We cannot boat on the Lake. This is because the lake can be a bit unpredictable at times, with sudden wind changes that can be dangerous for boaters.

A few hikes listed could be better, but the hikes are mostly safe all year round.
