Elephant Rocks near Duntroon are astonishing. It’s a large collection of eroded limestone rocks spread over a vast field. The picture of this rock looks unreal. They are called Elephant Rocks because some of the rocks look like an elephant. I couldn’t find these rocks that looked like an elephant, but they had to look like it at some point!

Who Did Watch the Chronicles of Narnia?

If you’re a fan of The Chronicles of Narnia, you’ll love this spot! It’s where they filmed scenes for the movie.
You can experience the fantastic atmosphere here at any time of the day, and if you climb up, you’ll get an incredible view of the boulder field, farmland, and the Southern Alps in the background.
Once you’re up there, you can explore the rocks from different angles, and each one will give you a unique shape to admire.
I loved it because it was peaceful. I could only hear the sounds of birds and nearby sheep, and the breeze was gentle. It was enjoyable to take in the beauty of nature.
“This is the land of Narnia,’ said the Faun, ‘where we are now; all that lies between the lamp-post and the great castle of Cair Paravel on the eastern sea.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia
Geologically speaking
Millions of years ago, the area where the Elephants Rocks are located was under the sea. Then, many marine animals and plants died and stayed on the bottom of the seafloor, just like in the area of Moeraki-boulders-beach. Today, we can find fossils and dramatic limestone rock formations. They look fantastic.

“Alas,” said Aslan, shaking his head. “It will. Things always work according to their nature. She has won her heart’s desire; she has unwearying strength and endless days like a goddess. But length of days with an evil heart is only length of misery and already she begins to know it. All get what they want; they do not always like it.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia
