Wairarapa

Just an hour’s drive from Wellington, this lovely region is filled with breathtaking landscapes, delightful towns, and a wonderfully relaxed vibe. We really enjoyed all it had to offer!

Longbush Road.

The Itinerary

We enjoyed staying in a stunning mansion Airbnb in Longbush, an excellent adventure base.

The region showcases vast green fields where cows and sheep graze freely. While many might overlook this pastoral setting, I find a unique beauty in its simplicity. My love for nature, particularly trees, and livestock, allows me to appreciate the serene charm of the countryside during my travels.

As we journeyed along the winding roads, we stumbled upon the historic Gladstone Church, a beautiful building with charming architecture that stood out against the verdant backdrop. Compelled by its quaint allure, we decided to pause and capture a few photographs to remember this picturesque moment.

Towns visited

Masterton, Greytown and Martinborough

Greytown, main street

From this location, we explored several charming towns in Wairarapa, including Masterton, Greytown (my personal favorite), and Martinborough.

A highlight of our trip was our visit to Cape Palliser lighthouse, where we observed colonies of playful fur seals.

Te Awaiti and the Stony Bay

We also took the time to explore Te Awaiti and Stony Bay, two stunning locations showcasing their unique beauty.

Te Awaiti Bay

Te Awaiti enchanted us with its lush greenery and tranquil waters.

We wandered through the scenic landscape of the bay, enjoying the calming sounds of nature and the aroma of wildflowers that filled the air.

Each spot left a lasting impression on us, highlighting the region’s diverse natural beauty.

Gorgeous rainbow!

On the other hand, Stony Bay captivated us with its rugged coastline, where the waves crashed against the rocky cliffs, creating a breathtaking view of the sunset.

Stunnig sunset at Stony Bay.

We enjoyed walking along the sandy beaches, soaking in the serene atmosphere, and enjoying the vibrant marine life.

Suddenly, we saw an incredible rainbow. We couldn’t ask for a better way to end the day!

Mataikona Rocks – Geologicals gem.

We also spent driving to Mataikona Rocks along the coast. The geological formations we encountered were genuinely remarkable, showcasing breathtaking scenery. The intriguing shapes of the rocks created an otherworldly atmosphere, lending an alien vibe to the beach.

This journey offered amazing experiences and showcased breathtaking sights that left a lasting impression.

Castle Point Reserve

We spent two wonderful days at Castle Point near the iconic lighthouse. The picturesque landscape was breathtaking, with rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and rolling waves creating a serene setting. Being far removed from the bustling towns in New Zealand, Castle Point offered a sense of solitude and tranquility that was refreshing.

During our stay, we took the time to recharge our batteries and immerse ourselves in the natural beauty surrounding us. We explored the rocky shores, watched fur seals bathing near us, and marveled at the vibrant sunsets that painted the sky in brilliant hues. Capturing these moments with our camera allowed us to create lasting memories of this stunning escape into nature.

I would rather own a little and see the world than own the world and see a little of it.”
